Marantz was one of the first av makers to come out with a slim line of receivers. Yamaha has followed in their footsteps by also offering amps that are squat in stature. Their latest vertically challenged receiver is the 5.1 channel Yamaha RX-S601 BL.

Yamaha RX-S601 BL

The Yamaha RX-S601 BL stands a little only 4 inches tall, but has more features than you can shake a stick at. The S601 has built-in Bluetooth, WiFi and also supports Apple AirPlay. Bluetooth is a two way street with the RX-S601. Not only can you stream music to the amp via Bluetooth, but you can also send audio from the receiver to a pair of Bluetooth headphones or speakers.

Along with AirPlay, the 601 supports a collection of internet streaming options such as vTuner, Pandora® and Spotify.

As you’d expect the Yamaha RX-S601 can handle Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It also supports other hi-res audio files such as DSD 2.8 MHz / 5.6 MHz, FLAC / WAV / AIFF 192 kHz / 24-bit, and Apple® Lossless 96 kHz / 24-bit playback.

For video the Yamaha 601 packs-in 6 HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.2 support for 4K video.

Last but not least, the Yamaha RX-S601 BL supports Yamaha’s newly announced MusicCast wireless multi-room streaming system. Essentially, MusicCast allows you to transmit audio from external devices attached to the receiver to other MusicCast devices in your home. Thus far, the list of Yamaha MusicCast components is pretty substantial as it includes AV receivers, sound bars, speakers and more.

The Yamaha RX-S601BL is expected to hit store shelves this month with an expected MSRP of  $649.
