With most speaker makers embracing the new object based Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio formats, SVS has joined the fray. However, looking to maximize the audio performance of the two new formats, they’re taking a different approach to their height effect speakers.

Realizing that most home owners don’t have or want ceiling speakers to produce height effects, most manufacturers have started producing speaker modules that reflect sound off of ceilings and down into the listening area. The reflected sound mimics the height effects that you would normally hear with ceiling speakers although to a lesser extent.

SVS believes that reflected sound is inaccurate and unpredictable. With this in mind their new Prime Elevation speakers are designed to deliver a direct path of sound to the listener. Ideally, for Atmos and DTS:X the Prime Elevation speakers would be placed near your ceiling with their angled faces pointed down into your listening area. SVS believes this is the only way to truly enjoy the impact of object based sound tracks since the design of their speakers delivers the audio directly to your ears instead of relying upon reflected sound from the ceiling.

The speaker is also designed to work well in oddly shaped rooms and according to SVS, they can also be used as front left and right channels or even a center channel. To accommodate installation of the flexible speaker, SVS includes a multi-angle wall bracket that allows the Prime Elevation speakers to be securely mounted to your walls in any of four directions.

The Elevations have the specs of a high-end bookshelf speaker. According to their spec sheet they have a frequency response of 55 Hz – 25 kHz (+/- 3dB). The speakers are manufactured with thick MDF walls to help reduce resonance. To reproduce high frequencies, the Prime Elevations rely on a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter. A 4.5-inch poly/mid-range bass woofer is responsible for producing mid and low frequencies.

The SVS Elevation speakers are available in three finish options: black piano gloss, black oak and high-gloss white. More information can be found on SVS’s website.
