More and more manufacturers are beginning to embrace the benefits of sound platforms. Sony is the next electronics maker to unleash a sound platform on an unsuspecting public. The Sony HT-XT1 is an all-in-one sound box that is rated at 170 watts, which isn’t bad for a device this diminutive. The HT-XT1 is structurally reinforced so that it can comfortably support up to 66lbs. Like most sound bases, the XT1 has a built-in subwoofer. However, take a glimpse at the underbelly of the XT1 and you’ll see that it houses 2 built-in subwoofers, not just one.

HDMI has been sorely missing from most sound bars and sound bases however, the Sony HT-XT1 includes 3 HDMI 2.0 inputs.  Wireless connectivity is also an option thanks to the units built-in bluetooth which allows you to stream audio files directly to the sound system. The XT1 also decodes a variety of HD audio sources including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.

The Sony HT-XT1 should be hitting shelves now at a suggested MSRP of $299.
