The 850 and 1050 models that Sony released in 2014 received high marks from industry professionals and as long as Sony doesn’t mess with the innards too much, there’s no reason to think that the new models won’t live up to expectations.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, spec wise they’re pretty similar to 2014’s offerings. However, the 860 and 1060 will put additional emphasis on multi-room audio. Both receivers will support 4K-Ultra HD video and HDCP 2.2 copy protection protocols. For streaming they’ll also support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (with aptX), AirPlay, Spotify Connect and Google Cast.

Even more interesting is that the STRDN 860 and 1060 will include Sony’s multi-room streaming system SongPal Link. SongPal Link will be available on several of Sony’s sound bars for 2015 as well as some of their wireless speakers. The app will allow users to wirelessly stream music to speaker systems which are compatible with SongPal Link. This feature alone could make these receivers the hub of a multi-room audio system.
