Comcast Digital Sales

As reported by Reuters, Comcast is poised to begin offering digital sales of movies and tv shows via their set-top boxes and the XFINITY TV web site. This could happen as early as this year. Comcast at this time, is remaining quiet on the subject however, this move wouldn’t be surprising.

Comcast in recent weeks has been rumored to be in talks with Netflix and could begin offering a broadband internet bundle which includes HBO. The move by Comcast to offer digital sales of movies and TV shows is a win win situation for Comcast, TV Networks and Movie Studios. DVD and Blu-Ray sales have begun dwindling as more consumers begin consuming streaming video content.

Reportedly, purchased video content will be available for a variety of devices including tablets and smartphones. If Comcast does move forward with these plans, expect other cable and satellite operators to follow.
