Yamaha’s just announced that a firmware upgrade is now available for the Aventage RX-A3040 and RX-A2040 receivers. This latest update will make the two receivers Dolby Atmos compatible.

Dolby Atmos creates a 3D like sound field through the inclusion of additional audio channels (usually ceiling speakers). For those of us unable to install ceiling speakers a host of companies are now making Dolby Atmos Speakers. These speakers work by reflecting sound off of your ceiling and down into your listening area.

The Yamaha RX-A2040 and 3040 are the latest receivers from various manufacturers to begin to adopt the new format. In addition to supporting Atmos, these 9.2 channel receivers also incorporate other enviable features which include 4K-Ultra HD video support, WiFi, and an impressive set of music streaming options. Both receivers are on sale now with the A2040 running about $1,600 and the 3040 $2,000.
