Unfortunately, anyone who had Apple’s HomePod on their Christmas list this year will be disappointed. Apple has announced that their Amazon Echo competitor won’t make it out in time for the holidays. Instead, its release date has been pushed back to early 2018. The Siri enabled speaker was originally set to launch December 2017.

“We can’t wait for people to experience HomePod, Apple’s breakthrough wireless speaker for the home, but we need a little more time before it’s ready for our customers,” Apple said in a statement. “We’ll start shipping in the US, UK and Australia in early 2018.”

With Apple being late to the game with their smart speaker, they have a smaller margin of error than Amazon did when they first launched the Echo. In today’s environment, Apple not only has to compete with Amazon, but Google and Samsung as well. Amazon recently announced several new models in their smart speaker line-up which should tighten their grip in this consumer category.
