Manufacturers have been trying for years to bring the surround sound experience you get in a movie theater to your living room. If you have the room you can easily create a 5 channel or 7 channel surround sound system. However, many of us don’t have adequate space in order to achieve this. Yamaha believes they may have the answer for those of us who are space challenged, the Yamaha YSP-2500.

Yamaha YSP-2500

The YSP-2500 has a high quality look and feel thanks to it’s aluminum cladding. However, don’t let it’s good looks deceive you. It’s sturdy aluminum chassis is designed to reduce vibrations. The YSP-2500 includes an astounding 16 speakers with 16 amplifiers. The 2500 works by using specially designed beam drivers to “beam” sound waves around your room. The sound waves then bounce off of surfaces in your room and down into your listening area thereby creating the illusion that sound is coming from various directions. Accompanying it’s impressive speaker array is a slim subwoofer which houses dual 4 inch drivers.

A feature that you rarely see included with any soundbar is a calibration microphone. This critical piece of equipment allows the YSP-2500 to calculate the specific acoustic qualities of your listening area and adjust the angles of each sound beam.

Additional features of the YSP-2500 include built-in bluetooth with aptX support, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio decoding, and 3 HDMI inputs with 4K Ultra HD pass through.

The YSP-2500 has an excellent feature set. Although it can’t replace a true 7.1 surround system it may be one of the few sound bars available that can come close. The MSRP on the 2500 is around $1000, but even if it comes close to it’s advertised performance it may be worth every penny.
