Since announcing their MusicCast multi-room audio system last year, Yamaha’s been releasing a steady stream of compatible products. The latest two entries are the YSP-2700 sound bar and the WX-010 speaker. The 2700 is expected to arrive this September with an MSRP of $1,199.95. The WX-010 will have an MSRP of $199.95 when it hits store shelves in August.

Yamaha YSP-2700 Sound Bar

Yamaha YSP-2700
The Yamaha YSP-2700 sound bar, according to Yamaha, boasts true 7.1 channel capability thanks to its digital sound projector technology. If you could pull back the front grill, you’d see that the YSP-2700 houses an array of 16 speakers. Each speaker is powered by its own 2 watt amplifier. With Yamaha’s sound projector tech, the speakers are designed to reflect sound off of ceilings and walls. The reflected sounds will give the illusion of surround sound. To handle low frequencies, the 2700 is also bundled with a wireless subwoofer.

Borrowing a page from Yamaha’s line of AV receivers, the 2700 includes its own calibration software package called IntelliBeam™. By using measurements captured by the included microphone, IntelliBeam™ adjusts the beam angles of the bar’s 16 speakers to provide the best sonic experience.

It’s rare for a sound bar to handle hi-res home theater formats, however the 2700 isn’t your run-of-the-mill sound bar. Dolby Digital 5.1-channel, Dolby True HD and DTS-Master Audio can all be decoded by the bar. With Bluetooth you can stream audio from an ample list of internet sources. Pandora®, Spotify®, Rhapsody® and SiriusXM® can all be used to blast music to the sound bar. With MusicCast you can transmit audio from the sound bar to other MusicCast devices in your home.

Along with its audio acumen, the YSP-2700 has a healthy selection of inputs headlined by its 3 HDMI inputs and 1 output. All the inputs are HDCP 2.2 compatible and allow for 4K pass through.

Yamaha WX-010 Speaker

Yamaha WX-010

The WX-010 is a smaller version of the WX-030 MusicCast speaker. The 010 has a 3.5-inch woofer and a 1-inch tweeter on the front, complemented by dual opposing passive radiators on each side. The WX-010 can be tethered to your network via WiFi or a wired ethernet connection.

Installing the MusicCast app on your iOS or Android device lets you send music directly to the little speaker and link it to other MusicCast devices in your ecosystem.

Like the YSP-2700, you can send music to the WX-010 from a variety of streaming services such as Pandora®, Spotify®, Rhapsody® and SiriusXM®. Audiophiles can enjoy listening to popular hi-res audio formats like Apple® Lossless (ALAC) up to 96 kHz / 24-bit, as well as FLAC, AIFF and WAV files up to 192 kHz / 24-bit thru the speaker. Being that the speaker is also DLNA compliant, you can also send music across your network from a PC or a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. The WX-010 will be available in white or black when it launches this August.
