It’s fairly common knowledge that Marvel’s vigilante hero, the Punisher, will appear in Netflix’s hit series Daredevil this year. However, as reported by Slash Film, Netflix may be on the verge of green lighting a Punisher spin-off series as well.

Netflix already has several Marvel properties on the docket. Daredevil and Jessica Jones are bona-fide hits, and Netflix is currently moving forward with Luke Cage and Iron Fist series. The 2nd season of Daredevil, doesn’t premier until March of this year but insiders are suggesting that both Netflix and Marvel are so pleased with the portrayal of the tortured character, that they’re ready to grant the Punisher his own series.

John Bernthal, who formerly played Shane on The Walking Dead,  was given the task of bringing the Punisher to the small screen. Entertainment Weekly recently had an opportunity to sit down and talk to Bernthal about his take on the character –

“As a man who put his on the line and really went through the ultimate sacrifice for this country in his involvement in the military. He’s a guy who brought the war home with him [in] the worst possible way. There are a lot of iterations of this character and in all of them it’s a man who’s gone through this unbelievable trauma and what’s interesting about our take on him is how this trauma reshapes his own philosophy.”

The 2nd season of Daredevil begins March 18th on Netflix and we’re eager to see if Bernthal’s interpretation of the character is as brutal as the comic version.
