A few weeks ago we announced that Seiki was the first manufacturer to offer an affordable 4K 50″ TV in the United States for a low price of $1499. Not to be outdone the China based manufacturer TCL has just announced that they will be launching a 50 inch 4K TV for the low, low price of $999.
The TCL 7E504D, which is expected be available in September, will be an edge-lit LED LCD and feature a 120 Hz refresh rate and 4 HDMI ports (including one that’s MHL compatible). Currently, it doesn’t appear that it will include any smart TV or 3D functions, but at this price point, it’s not surprising.
Launching alongside the 7E504D will be a new line of 1080p TVs. TCL’s 5510 Series will come in 3 sizes 40 inch ($399), 46 inch ($499) and 55 inch ($799). All 3 in the series will have a 120 Hz refresh rate, LED edge lighting and an MHL compatible HDMI port. The 55 inch will have some smart TV features and include YouTube, Netflix and Yahoo Apps. The 55 inch model will also include built-in WiFi.
4K (also known as Ultra High Defintion) is roughly 4 times the resolution of 1080p. However, the lack of 4K content on the market currently, limits your viewing options.
