Internet leaks are nothing new so its not too surprising when a technology company has one of their newest products leak online before an official announcement is made. This is the case with Sonos. For a brief time, online retailer B&H Photo posted a price, description and photos of Sonos’ new Playbase speaker.  FCC filings also appear to corroborate the leaked info. If it all turns out to be true, the new speaker will probably be released in March with an approximate street price of $700.

Sonos Playbase Preview

The Playbase appears to be a smaller alternative to the Sonos Playbar. Photos also suggest that the Playbase will function as a speaker stand that sets underneath TVs. When it comes to connectivity, Sonos seems to adhere to the “less is more” philosophy with all their products. If the early pics are accurate the rear of the unit only has ethernet and digital optical inputs and no HDMI. While this seems sparse, Sonos has always had a knack for making the setup and implementation of their products as simple as possible.

Sonos PlaybaseSonos previously mentioned their intention to integrate Amazon’s Alexa with future products, so we wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of the first products to result from this collaboration.

If the March release date holds true, we expect an official announcement to be made by Sonos shortly so stay tuned.
