With UHD video gaining a stronger foothold in living rooms we’re starting to see 4K Blu-rays coming to the forefront of the 4K revolution. However, to enjoy its Ultra HD goodness you need to have the proper equipment on hand. A 4K display or TV is a must along with either a 4K blu-ray player,  X-Box One S, or a 4K capable streaming box like the Roku.

Thanks to Pioneer, you’ll soon be able to play 4K Blu-rays on your PC as well. Pioneer has announced their plans to bring two 4K Blu-ray PC readers to market this year. Both drives have read and write capabilities, however when it comes to 4K Blu-rays they can only read, not write. The BDR-S11J-X is said to be a little higher-end than its sibling. The J-X runs a little quieter and, according to Pioneer, will provide better audio quality for playing CDs

With its higher image quality, you’ll need a relatively beefed up PC to play UHD video. It’s recommended that you have at least 6 GB of RAM, a HDMI 2.0a HDCP 2.2 compatible port, and one of Intels latest Core i5 or Core i7 Kaby Lake processors.

The BDR-S11J-BK and BDR-S11J-X will land on the shores of Japan this February. Their release date and price in the U.S. has yet to be determined.
