Marantz has recently unveiled their flagship AV receiver. The Marantz SR7011 replaces the SR7010, which we reviewed here and loved. The SR7011 appears to have all of the features of the 7010, plus it has a few more surprises up its sleeve.

The SR7011 boasts 9.2-channels of amplification with an estimated power output of about 125 watts per channel according to Marantz. If you need more speakers in your system the 7011 is flexible. The receiver has two pre-amp outputs which allows you to connect an external amplifier to give you an 11.2 channel configuration.

Dolby Atmos & DTS:X

Marantz SR7011 Preview

The Marantz SR7011 out of the box supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Auro-3D is also available via a paid upgrade. If you go without an external amp, it’s possible to run a 5.1.4 Atmos/DTS:X arrangement. Since the Marantz SR7011 can process up to 11 channels you can expand the number of speakers to 7.1.4 with an external amplifier.

4K Support & More

On a top-tier receiver you expect a variety of connection options to be available. The SR7011 has a ton of inputs available including analog, component, and digital. It also caters to custom integration with dual 12V trigger outputs, an IR input and a RS-232C serial port. These features are all well and good, but they won’t help you with your new 4K TV.

To handle ultra HD content, the 7011 has a total of 8 HDMI inputs and 3 outputs. The 7011’s HDMIs support HDCP 2.2 copy protection, 60Hz video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 21:9 video, 3D, and BT.2020. All of these features mean that the 7011 is well equipped to handle Ultra HD video. Besides passing through a 4K signal, the amp is also capable of upscaling a standard def and hi-def video to near 4K quality.

WiFi, Bluetooth and Apple’s AirPlay are built-in to the SR7011. Since multi-room audio is the “It” feature this year, the Marantz SR7011 is compatible with Denon’s HEOS multi-room audio system giving you the opportunity to play music in every room of your house as long as you have compatible speakers. Thru the HEOS app a variety of music streaming services are available including;  Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn Internet radio, Amazon Prime Music, iHeart Radio, Sirius XM, Sound Cloud, Tidal, Napster and Deezer. The amp also has multi-zone capabilities and supports up to three zones.

For calibration duties, the Marantz SR7011 uses Audyssey’s top-of-the-line MultEQ XT32. Audyssey optimizes each speaker for correct frequency and time domain response. Audyssey Dynamic Volume smooths out annoying jumps in volume (such as TV commercials), letting you listen at lower levels and still enjoy clear dialogue. Audyssey Sub EQ HT provides individual DSP tailoring of each subwoofer in your system. This is especially useful if you’re running dual subs.

The Marantz SR7011 is available now from most major AV retailers.
