Marantz has just announced two new entries in their stereo equipment offerings: the PM6006 integrated amplifier which replaces the PM6005 and the CD6006 CD player which replaces the CD6005.

The PM6006 has the same pedigree as its predecessor. The 6006 uses the same pre-amp, power amp and HDAM modules as the 6005. The PM6006’s ability to handle peak current at the amplifier stage should result in greater clarity and transparency. Its total power output is estimated to be about 45 watts per channel at 8 ohms. Thanks in part to the PM6006’s Toroidal Transformer and its vast energy reserves, the amp is designed to tackle your most power hungry speakers.

The PM6006 has a built-in 24bit/192kHz high current CS4398 DAC (digital to analog converter) and can handle audio from a variety of digital sources. When compared to the 6005, the 6006 has two digital optical inputs to the 6005’s one.

In addition, the 6006 has 5-line audio inputs including a dedicated phono input for vinyl lovers and two-pairs of gold-plated speaker connections for bi-wiring.

The CD6006 CD Player uses the same high current CS4398 DAC as the PM6006. To reduce distortion at the output stage, the CD6006 uses Marantz’s proprietary HDAM-S2 circuits. MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC files can be played via a connected USB drive. An iPod can also be connected to the CD player if you prefer to stream music from one of Apple’s portable devices. The CD6006 also features a newly designed headphone amplifier with headphone amp gain settings.

Bad vibrations are the nemesis of audio devices everywhere. To help conquer this old foe, the 6006 has more rigid feet than its predecessor which should improve its overall audio quality.

The wait for these two devices should be short-lived as both are expected to be available in June.
