Ever wish that you could yank your TV off the wall, roll it up, slide it in a tube and take it with you? Well, I haven’t either, but I must admit it would be cool if you could. LG believes that they can make this happen by 2017. By that time, they believe they’ll be able to have a rollable 60 inch OLED screen on the market. Whether or not it will be affordable is a topic for another discussion but, if you can afford it, you’ll have the biggest and most portable TV on the market.

What makes these panels so flexible is the use of a polyamide film on the rear which is less rigid than the plastic previously used. Currently LG claims that they’ve developed an 18 inch version that has an HD resolution of 1200 x 810 and which can be rolled up into a 3 cm diameter. Hopefully, LG will reveal more regarding these flexible displays in the near future. The possible applications of these types of displays are¬†nearly endless. However, with the huge difficulties manufacturers have been having producing OLED displays, large scale and affordable production may prove to be immensely challenging.
