According to recent FCC filings all signs point to Google coming out with a wireless 4K set top box for its Google Fiber customers sometime this year. Details are sparse, but it appears that it will come equipped with 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi as well as Bluetooth 4.1 radio. As reported by TechRadar, the box won’t need to use a wired connection in order to connect to your router which means you should be able to place the box anywhere that you have a strong WiFi signal.

Unfortunately, it’s believed that this new box will only be available to Google Fiber subscribers. Despite Google’s effort to enlarge its Google Fiber user base, its roll out has been slow with only 11 cities currently offering the service. So unless you’re one of the lucky ones that has Google Fiber in one of these 11 cities you’re pretty much out of luck.

Apparently, the FCC filing also includes confidential photos of the actual device and a user manual. The confidentiality lapses in August 2017 so we expect Google to make some sort of official announcement prior to this date.
