On the surface you may think that Fluance, with their newest wireless speaker, the Fi50, is targeting Sonos. However, whereas Sonos’ bread and butter is multi-room audio, Fluance’s latest speaker is aimed at those who want a great sounding wireless speaker that’s easy to use and affordable. Fluance, which has burst on the scene with their low-cost yet great sounding audio equipment has managed to jam audiophile level features in the Fi50, while still keeping it at an affordable price.

The Fluance Fi50 boasts some pretty high-end parts. If features a two-way design with dual 3/5 inch silk soft dome ferrofluid cooled tweeters mounted in the middle of dual 5 inch woven glass fiber composite drivers. The Fi50 has a frequency response of 40Hz – 20KHz which is pretty impressive for a speaker of this size. To help minimize low frequency distortion it also has two tuned bass ports in the rear designed to improve efficiency and provide deep powerful bass.

The speaker measures 20 inches x 5 inches x 7 inches and weighs a substantial 13lbs. Some of its heft can be attributed to its handmade audio-grade MDF wood cabinetry which has generous internal bracing. The Fluance Fi50 comes in three finishes Black Ash, Lucky Bamboo and Natural Walnut.

Bluetooth integration is designed to be as smooth and seamless as possible. As soon as you’re within range (33 feet) of the Fi50, its auto-pairing technology will automatically sync with your bluetooth device.

Bluetooth isn’t known for its audio fidelity however, the Fi50 includes bluetooth with AptX support. AptX is designed to bring bluetooth audio to near CD quality levels.

If you prefer a wired connection, the Fi50 has a 3.5mm input for connecting external audio devices as well as a convenient USB input which can be used to charge mobile devices.

At first glance it would appear that Fluance has done it again. Based on its specs the Fi50 has all of the qualities that should result in a fantastic listening experience. Stay tuned as we hope to get a review model in our offices to see how their latest speaker measures up.
